As the team enters the ex-owner’s home, they come across a professor who knows about a pseudo-scientific process called Astral Projection. Rest of the story reveals how the Astral Projection is related to the Ghost acts in the Car, who is the person (s) undergo the said process etc. There is also a parallel inter-related plot on Shiva’s brother and sister-in-law.
Rising star of Tollywood Vijay Deverakonda acts with ease as a cab driver Shiva. Vijay is able to deliver good performance even in this cowardice characterization which is contrary to his rowdy boy image. However, in second half his screen time is less. Debut heroine Priyanka Jawalkar looks fine; however, her character has limited scope in this film. Second heroine Malavika Nair role is much smaller but it is the crux of the core theme. Raviprakash, Ravi Varma, Shiju, Uttej and Yesteryear heroines Yamuna, Kalyani play other roles. The young guy who played a character named “Hollywood “is fun.
Production values by SKN are neat as the film has very good night visuals and the science fiction element has been showcased in a good color tone by the camera department. Production design is top notch as the garage set up looks very impressive. Dialogues are good and the music and background score by Jake’s Bejoy is top notch.
Coming to the director Rahul, he has done an impressive job with the film. Even though the backdrop of the film is the age-old horror comedy, he cleverly adds a science fiction element and narrates it convincingly keeping the viewers engaged.
Analysis: The main plus points of Taxiwaala are the concept, screenplay, art direction, cinematography, BGM, Sound design and the performances of Vijay Devarakonda. The first half is engaging whereas the second part has a dull moment because of the serious scenes. The science fiction element, which is very similar to Hollywood movies, impressed everyone. The director Rahul came up with a horror comedy movie with science fiction element and narrated it in an interesting manner.
Taxiwala is an okay film and a one-time watch easily.
