Sharwanand & Samantha's '96' remake titled as 'Janaki Devi
Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha-starrer 96 marked cinematographer C Prem Kumar's directorial debut in Tamil. The film went on to become a blockbuster and was lauded by critics and the audience alike. Now, 96 is being remade in Telugu with Sharwanand and Samantha Akkineni stepping into the shoes of Sethupathi and Trisha's roles.
The latest buzz is that the film is said to be titled, Janaki Devi. Recently, the makers had registered this title with the Film Chamber. Samantha will essay the role of Janaki Devi, who is named after the legendary singer S Janaki. In the film, she is playing a fan who sings only S Janaki's songs.
An official announcement on the title is expected to be made in the coming days. Sources close to the team revealed that Sharwanand will take part in a look test for the movie, where director Prem and his team will finalize his multiple looks.
The Telugu version of 96 was in the news recently when reports about a fallout between producer Dil Raju and director Prem Kumar surfaced. It looks like they sorted out their differences and have decided to work together.
Janaki Devi will have music composed by Govind Vasantha, who scored chartbuster songs in the original. The film will showcase Sharwanand in at least two different looks.
On the work front, Samantha is waiting for the release of Shiva Nirvana's Majili while Sharwanand is shooting for director Sudheer Varma's untitled venture.
