Maharishi flop before small screens
Mahesh Babu's Maharshi was one of the most celebrated movies of this year. Produced by Tollywood giants like Aswini Dutt, Dil Raju, and PVP, the film released on May 9th, 2019. The film received decent reviews from the audience and the critics. The film collected more than 100 crores share worldwide.
Maharshi was premiered on Television on 6th October 2019 as Dussehra Special on the Gemini channel who bought its satellite rights for a huge price. But it has all turned into a huge disappointment, as the film was received poorly on the television.
According to BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council), Maharshi got a TRP rating of just 9.2, which is pretty low for a huge Mahesh Babu film. The Gemini team must have expected anything more than 15 TRP for Maharshi because Mahesh’s last movie Bharat Ane Nenu fetched a TRP of 14.6 when it got premiered on TV. Samantha’s Oh Baby was also premiered during this festive season and received a TRP of 9, which is very good for a film that doesn’t have a male superstar in lead. Maharshi was premiered on digital platforms before it was shown on TV. This might have affected its viewership, but last year, the same thing happened to Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava, which garnered a decent TRP of 13.6. F2 is the biggest blockbuster on TV this year, with a TRP of 17.2. Kanchana 3 also got a good TRP of 13.
