![]() Introduction Of New Bills On Gambling and ReactionsBan on games is helping foreign Firms, not Indian Firms One thing that's quite common in the gaming business and has been identified as the hazard of the business is the placing of bans on games. Some, temporary, some permanent. Placing a ban means to forbid games for whatever reason in a particular state, region, or country. This on the firsthand of it is a setback in its real sense, it's a setback on the business. There has been a wave of various bans placed on games in India, the focus is on online casino games. It's looking more or less like the government doesn't want the gaming business to thrive in India despite its potential. Many Indian firms feel like these ban placements will only help foreign firms. How is this true? Keep reading. Introduction Of New Bills On Gambling and Reactions One of the major steps that affected Indian casinos online was the bill introduced in Chennai. This bill was introduced to replace an ordinance earlier on the same matter. They all relate to betting online, all forms of sports betting included. The ordinance was earlier made because of suicide rates which they feel is as a result of gambling. Now that there's a bill. The bill states the addictive nature of online games, betting, poker, and shreds of evidence of cheating, losing largely which has caused suicides. Thus, it has placed heavy fines on whoever is found playing games online for real money. Recently, Octro an online gaming company has also reacted to the ban being placed on online games in India. Manav Sethi, Octro's Chief Marketing Officer has indicated that the government's ban on online games in India is just helping international firms to grow. He added that the company would start the acquisition and stretching toward international markets. The CMO said "We have gotten growth on these sides, basically the card and casino side. We have also seen some success in the real money gaming site. So, why don't we take these IPs international" That is where our next round of investment in terms of capital, people and time is going into. We have two very clear tracks - build an IP that can go global, and the second track is to take our existing IP globally" He added. The TRUTH A clear look at this is true, that if the government of India keeps on banning games based in the country, players will seek out other gaming firms outside of India and play their games. This in turn is empowering those firms and the countries they're based in. Meaning that the actions of the Government are not economically wise. The conflicting thing is that the government is allowing foreign gaming companies into the country. The gaming industry has huge potentials to contribute immensely to the economy and instead of the government to tap into this, they're throwing the market away to foreign firms. Instead of totally prohibiting games, the government should rather introduce policies to guide online gaming in the country. There should be clear guidelines and authorities to enforce them. This will help Indian firms become stronger, instead of weakening them.
