Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja joined hands with Sreenu Vaitla for the fourth time and he is playing a triple role for the first time in his career. Titled as Amar Akbar Anthony, the film has Ileana as the female lead. Majority of the film’s shoot happened in USA.
Story: Amar Akbar Anthony starts in New York. Amar (Ravi Teja)’s father and his close friend Aishwarya (Ileana D’Cruz)’s father are business partners and they own a big pharma firm in US. They offer a small share to 4 employees. They kill the families of Amar and Aishwarya, and take over their company. The only survivors of this tragedy are Amar and Aishwarya, the story takes a serious turn from here. The grown up Amar and Aishwarya try to take revenge on the culprits. However, both have dissociative identity disorder. They are suffering from this disorder assume different personalities and behave accordingly. How will they take the revenge? Who are Akbar and Anthony? To get these answers, one should watch the movie on silver screen.
Performance: Ravi Teja looks energetic as he was in his past movies. His action, comic timing, body languages, and facial expressions are appreciable. Ileana is not attractive anymore as heroine and a misfit for Aishu / Pooja role. Sayaji Shinde got a good lengthy role in this film. There are numerous villains in this film – not much to rave about them though. Sunil, Vikramjit, Srinivas Reddy, Tanikella Bharani, Satya, Abhimanyu Singh, Vennala Kishore, Ravi Prakash, Tarun Arora, Aditya Menon, Raghu Babu, Jayaprakash Reddy, have given their best.
Technical: SS Thaman has in the past provided few memorable albums to Ravi Teja. Here he didn’t deliver on music. Only one along was decent. The background score was definitely better. The cinematography was good. The editing should have been much better. The writing is weak. One can make out that the writers are trying hard to land a punch. It doesn’t feel organically developed. The picturisation of a couple of songs are neat on screen.
Analysis: Overall Amar Akbar Anthony is good mass masala entertainer drama. Plus points of the film are Ravi Teja’s characterization, Child artists Chandrahaas Marisela and Sloka Gorty, action episode and entertainment. On the flipside, the story is routine. The director Srinu Vaitla has proved that he can come up with interesting plots, but he should concentrate more on the story line.
