Christmas spirit sweeps northeast IndiaAizawl/Kohima/Agartala, Dec 25 - Christmas was celebrated with joy and gaiety Tuesday across India's northeast with carols and festivities. Celebrations began Monday with church services and fellowships where congregations sang Western and local Christmas carols. More than five million Christians live in Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Manipur besides many in the other northeastern states. Police said the Christmas-eve celebrations went off peacefully in Mizoram. Aizawl and other places in the state wore a festive look. Churches, buildings and markets were illuminated in Kohima, Dimapur and other parts of Nagaland. Shoppers have been thronging markets for the last few days. Nagas living elsewhere in the country and students who had moved to other states have returned home.
